Funny Little Thing

Faith –

Such a simple word, yet a hard thing to grasp.  As humans by default we are vision oriented.  We need to see it to believe it.  So how do we believe in faith?  By its definition on a Biblical scale – because remember, positivity laced biblically inspired – alone it’s downright implausible.  Right?

Faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things unseen (Hebrews 11:1).”

We live by faith, not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7).” <-What?!

So how can we be expected to believe?

Faith…

I have always been a bit of a -plump pillow, slightly overweight, chubby, curvy- insert word here – woman.  So when I was told that I would not be able to enlist in the US Navy in 2006 because of it, I was kind of crushed.  However, faith.  Now that doesn’t mean that I didn’t do my part as well.

What people fail to understand is that Faith WITHOUT works is DEAD (James 2:14-26).  I couldn’t just be like “I believe that I’m going to lose weight, and get in the military,” and then skip off to McDonalds for a quarter pounder and large fry.  It doesn’t work that way.  If it did I would be rich!  Sadly enough it was time to go to the gym, and keep believing – FAITH – that God was going to provide a way.

Mustard seed faith.

All I needed was a little.  Like in that picture up there.  That’s a mustard seed.  So see…you don’t need a lot.  It worked, my little faith did.  After three trips to MEPS, the in-processing center, I was feeling mighty discouraged and low on faith.  Yet, I refused to give up on my faith and belief completely, and in November 2006 off to Chicago I went, for a wonderful journey of a career in the USN that lasted until 2015 all because of faith.

Faith will get you far.  It got me far.  A healthy child, a civilian job after the military, a vehicle in my name (a big thing for me), my own place, this blog ( my mother told me to start YEARS ago, but I was too afraid to step out on faith, Hi Mom!).  Not to mention the name Faith Raine :).

The job and the poetry/blog are different blogs altogether and we’ll tackle those later.

The funny thing about God is He’s no respecter of person.  So I know if He did it for lil ol’ me and my sometimes shaky faith.  He will definitely do it for anyone!

Yes yes! I relate to your example of losing weight. We have to do our part. Just like we can’t ask God to provide us a job and never apply! We have to do our part and trust him to do his.

    1. Beka,
That is absolutely correct. We can trust God and have faith. But what is faith without works? We do have to still do our part. You hit the nail right on the head.

“Mustard seed faith” – That is such a great reminder! All we need is this tiny little seed of faith and then courage and perseverance to help it grow! Good for you for not giving up. God takes people to beautiful heights when we let Him! God Bless!

Yes! Just a little can take you a long way. God has been good to me and I know He can do it for you and everyone else. We just have to water our seeds and help them grow.
