Life and the Backburner

Life happens and we often find ourselves pulling away from things, not doing others as much as we used too, and even putting things off. Or on the backburner, as my mother is wont to say.

How often however, do we find ourselves putting God on the backburner?

Fighting Thoughts

You ever get a song lyric stuck in your head or a thought, a reoccurring disruption?
You know what I mean. The type of thought or song or anything really that catches you unawares when it comes back around and you can never seem to quite get rid of it? It’ll just pop up when you are trying to:

-Read your bible

-Pray

– Have a discussion on or with God

So, God knows my Heart

“God knows my heart.”

That statement is usually said before, during, or immediately after doing something that we as Christians have no business doing at all…

Distracted by Distractions

Distractions are a strange thing….
You see, they never bother you when you are not doing what you are supposed to be doing. That is to say those, distractions don’t come when you are not walking in the will of God, or at least trying too, anyway.

We did that to Ourselves…

You know that feeling you get when you knock a cup over?

That feeling of, “man this really sucks, but I kind of did it to myself,” as we watch the liquid spread across the table, then onto the floor, as we now rush around to mop it up. Usually spreading it around making a bigger mess before it starts to actually clean up into something resembling a presentable mess.

Nobody Told You…

It’s hard when you’re young…..

I don’t mean young as in you are a teenager or in your early twenties. Granted those are indeed hard times, filled with teenage angst, acne, college, and learning that life well…sometimes sucks.

I mean it’s hard when you are young in Christ. When you are just a babe, freshly saved…or even saved for a long time but not quite mature.

It’s hard –

Got to Stop Skipping Church Day

I thought about church today….

But then I remembered that one time that I went…there was that one person or group…

I was going to go to church today…

But…then I thought about how I heard the Pastor of that church wasn’t the holiest person and is not doing right, and you know, who is he to tell me how to live for God, if he can’t get right himself….

I was going to go to church today…

But I was tired –

I didn’t have the right clothes-
They’re just going to judge me anyway –

They’re all just hypocrites –

I was going to go but – I can just worship in my own home….

Do any of these sound familiar? Do you ever wonder why church? Like honestly, what is the purpose?

With 1 Peter 5:7 there’s Hakuna Matata

Disney had a point….
Ok, let me rephrase that. Disney had a catchy catchphrase. But that’s what they do right? They give you a catch phrase that sticks with you. Something that you can easily remember when you are sad, happy, or when times are going down the toilet and you need a happy campy pick me up.

I’m Here For Check In

Sometimes you just need a break. A time-out of sorts, a chance to clear your head, and recharge from the breakneck pace you’ve been operating at recently. And let’s be honest things have been going from 0 – 100 and back again so fast that you’re pretty sure you have a type of whiplash that…
