I’m Here For Check In

Sometimes you just need a break.

timeout-250x250

A time-out of sorts, a chance to clear your head, and recharge from the breakneck pace you’ve been operating at recently. And let’s be honest things have been going from 0 – 100 and back again so fast that you’re pretty sure you have a type of whiplash that Advil or Aleve won’t fix.

Is it even possible to get spiritual whiplash? It sure feels like it, doesn’t it?

What you need is a chance to check into the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost Resort and Spa, or the Holy Trinity Hospital….most likely the Hospital.

On the outside you have a smile, a hug, even a kind word for those in need. However, on the inside you are battered and bruised from being tossed back and forth, left and right. Just a little too fast. Just a little too hard. Your heart hurts, you’re weary….the truth is you need God to doctor you and you need it like yesterday.

There’s an old gospel song that says Jesus is my doctor, and he writes out all of my ‘scriptions (cause we’re southern…so they are no longer prescriptions…plus this is usually sung by the Seasoned Adult Choir so they’re “scriptions”)….but there has got to be something somewhere in the Bible to help shore me/you/us up while we await our healing. Like putting on a neck brace and taking some Aleve, while we wait for God (the Ultimate doctor) to take the pain and hurt away.

We were told in Jeremiah 29:11:

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

So we know that these feelings of whiplash, of being battered and bruised cannot be how He wants us to live.   We are told over and over that by His (Jesus’) stripes (wounds) we are healed.

Yet we still hurt.

My soul is weary with sorrow;

   strengthen me according to your word. (Psalm 119:28)

I tire. I am weary. I hurt –

We were never told it would be easy. That every day would be restful and we would never have pain. In actuality we were told the exact opposite. The plus side is we were given hope even in knowing that it wouldn’t always be easy.

“The righteous person faces many troubles, but the Lord comes to the rescue each time.” (Psalm 34:19)

The beauty of not only this verse, but everything is that throughout the Bible we are given nuggets (medicine) to hold fast to while God does His work, within us to heal us from our hurts and pains. Even just to restore us from when we are weary.

When you need rest, because you are weary and the world has beat you down (I have been there) some of the places I like to visit to help remind me that it will be ok are:

Psalm 91:1 –

“Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest (abide) in the shadow of the Almighty”

Matthew 11:28-29 –

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”

Isaiah 40:31 –

“but those who hope in the Lord

will renew their strength.

They will soar on wings like eagles;

they will run and not grow weary,

they will walk and not be faint”

And Psalm 4:8 –

 In peace I will both lie down and sleep; for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.

 These are some pretty awesome things to remember when suffering from spiritual whiplash and God is healing you. I know that it seems like giving up would be the easiest thing to do and probably the best course of action.

I’ve come to tell you that if you just hold on and hold fast that it gets better. We are always told that our latter days will be better than our former (This is an actual Bible verse…kooky I know…but check out Haggai 2:9), you have to believe that.

There is nothing wrong with getting tired. Even Jesus got tired. But He took it to the Father in prayer. We need to do the same thing. We can get weary, but we just can’t STAY weary. We can get/be hurt, but we cannot stay that way. Not if we are to grow.

God is a healer. He can do all things. So maybe it’s time to check yourself into the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost Resort and Spa or the Holy Trinity Hospital and let God work on you for a while. It’s time to heal from the whiplash, hurts, pains, and world-weariness that you’ve been carrying around.

Unplug for a couple of days and spend it with God. You won’t regret it. I promise.

God Won't
